Description

The artist sits upright in a wooden chair on the right side of the composition, in front of a fireplace covered by his notes. He studies his canvas while holding a paintbrush and palette. Chairs, full bookcases, and desks occupy the left side of the composition, behind which hangs a large wall tapestry.
