Description
Built in the mid-18th century on the grounds of the medieval Hawarden Castle’s ruins, the new Hawarden Castle was home to W. E. Gladstone after his marriage to Catherine Glynne. Originally built of brick and stone dressings, the residence was greatly renovated, converted into a crenellated Gothic Revival style in around 1810, extended in around 1830, and further altered by Gladstone in the mid to late-19th century.
