Notes
Opus CCLVIII of Alma-Tadema's oeuvre, first exhibited at the Winter Exhibition of the Royal Watercolour Society in 1883-84. Engraved for The Art Journal as A Declaration, but later engraved for The Graphic (1893) as An Old Story. Its composition closely resembles the oil painting Amo te, ama me of 1881.
